The Michelin Guide's review
In 1664, Louis XIV founded the Royal Tapestry Works, which produced very delicate silk and wool pieces on horizontal basse-lisse looms. Housed in the former town abattoirs, this workshop provides space for a dozen or so professions. Heddle setters work from artists' sketches placed on the reverse of the tapestry and monitor their work using mirrors. The entire production is commissioned by France's major institutions.
