Skipness Castle is a vast fortress with a courtyard, manor (13C) and tower house (16C). It has remarkable red sandstone entrance and window trims. This imposing stronghold marked the southern boundary of Campbell territory (a great Scottish clan). There are great views across the sea to Arran beyond the Kilbrannan Sound.
