The Michelin Guide's review
A number of famous people were born or lived in the old houses lining this ancient Roman road (cardo). At N°20 is Doctor Gagnon's house (grandfather of novelist Stendhal). His living quarters, on the second floor, are now home to the new Stendhal Museum. Further down, at N°13, is the birthplace of philosopher Condillac; artist; Fantin-Latour lived at N°8; Hébert, another artist, lived at N°9; while politician Casimir-Perier resided at N°4.
